Visual Tests for Semi-Quantitative Analysis
(Rapid Visual Tests)
Merck’s visual tests include all types of test strips and kits from pH measurements to the analysis of turbid water samples. They are suited for all media in environmental analysis and industrial- in- process controls.
Benefit of the tests are:
- Instant
- Simple
- Consistently high
Our visual tests are universal, fast and simple screening tools. They enable you to run a swift check and help save time and many costly analytical procedures.
There are several test kits, and they include:
- Digital test strip readout with MQuant® StripScan:
This convenient digital detection system provides reliable analysis for various parameters of water, food, and beverages sample for customers f rom research, industrial, environmental and diagnostics fields.
- pH test strips, papers, and solutions
- Colorimetric test
- Compact
They are available for aquaristics, water testing and soil analysis.
The Visual Test Kits can be used to test for a wide range of parameters such as; aluminium, ammonium, AOX, arsenic, BOD, boron, cadmium, chloride, chlorine, chromate, cobalt, COD, copper, cyanide, fluoride, formaldehyde, hydrogen peroxide, iron, lead , manganese, molybdenum, nickel, nitrate, nitrite, nitrogen, oxygen, peroxide, pH, phenol, phosphate, quaternary ammonium compounds , sulfate, sulfide, sulfite, tin, TOC, zinc and other elements.
Interview:
Madonna Ebeere - Laboratory Supervisor, Nigerian Breweries Plc
Q. Please tell us about your organisation?
Ans. Nigerian breweries is a company that produces alcoholic drinks such as lager, stout, spirit and non-alcoholic beverages. We brew under the highest quality standards and safety procedures.
Q. Please describe the business relationship between your organisation and Cormart?
Ans. Cormart provides chemical and disinfection services to our brewery using premium products. They also supply us with laboratory reagents. Our business relationship has been good. We have had to clarify and resolve issues when there is a discrepancy, which is a testament to our relationship.
Q. What has been your impression of the products you purchase frequently?
Ans. Cormart has consistently delivered excellent services by supplying quality reagents that serve the laboratory’s purpose. The quality of the testing materials used; shows the integrity of the lab analysis.
Q. How do you ensure quality materials are being purchased or used?
Ans. We are quality conscious and are a custodian of quality. All materials received are subjected to laboratory analysis before production. We scan the QR code to confirm product information. The certificate of analysis is examined for parameters critical to the chemical. We also subject some to public evaluation to ascertain that the results obtained concur with the declaration on the certificate of analysis.
Q. Please describe the steps you take to avoid contamination of test samples.
Ans. The first step is to ensure that entrance control is top-notch. All products must be intact with the seal before they are accepted during delivery. The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) contains all information for the reagents that are read and understood before we apply the knowledge to existing laboratory safety protocols while working.

Technical Advice & Tips:
Laboratory Sample Preparation
Sample preparation starts with extraction. It involves isolating a representative piece of material f rom a source for laboratory testing.
The methods and techniques used to prepare samples vary enormously depending on the characteristics of the test sample analyzed, the type of examination to be performed and the desired results.
Solid-Phase Extraction: This uses a solid absorbent to isolate compounds in a sample according to their unique chemical and physical properties. It is one of the most widely used methods for cleaning up samples for analysis
Solid Phase Analytical Derivation (SPAD): This is used in more specialized applications and offers a range of benefits, including increased efficiency, reduced organic consumption and improved compatibility with chromatic systems. The challenge in sample preparation in this analysis is the recovery of analyses in an isolate suitable for determination at high sensitivity and specificity.
Gravimetric Sample Preparation: This improves accuracy and precision. It also helps laboratories save time. The The automated methods sees sample concentration expressed in mg/g, with solvent added based on the weight of the solid sample.
